There’s a vibrant energy buzzing through Darling Green Country Estate, and it’s more than just solar-powered. From homes rising out of the ground to families settling into their dream lifestyle, estate life is becoming more alive by the day. Here’s what’s been happening – and what’s just around the corner.

A Growing Community: Families & Foundations

The estate continues to grow – not just in structures but in spirit. We now have nine families (about 20 residents) living happily on the estate, with nine completed homes bringing the vision of Darling Green Country Estate to life. Eight more homes are under construction, and six stands are currently being prepped for building. Additionally, seven duplexes are currently under construction at the Village Post.

The gentle hum of construction isn’t just noise – it’s progress. It is a new beginning. And it’s a sign of the thriving community we’re building, one family at a time.

Breaking Ground at The Village Post

Construction is well underway at The Village Post – our next major development milestone. After securing NHBRC registration and plan approvals, the first foundation was officially poured on 22 May 2025. Currently, 47 workers are on-site, with that number expected to grow to around 200 during peak construction. Brickwork, plastering, roofing, and paving are all lined up as the build progresses toward occupation in December 2025.

But what will The Village Post actually feel like?

The atmosphere is designed to be warm, inclusive, and inspired by Darling’s character. Think: tree-lined streets, charming West Coast architecture, and homes built with lifestyle in mind. This is a place where kids can ride their bikes safely, neighbours gather for sundowners, and life unfolds at a balanced pace. Inasmuch, it’s all about community-focused living – simple, beautiful, and connected to nature.

Oude Post Retirement Village: Country Comfort Meets Modern Care

Just beyond the horizon of current development, groundwork has begun on Oude Post Retirement Village – a signature offering for seniors seeking a secure, fulfilling lifestyle in the heart of the West Coast.

In partnership with TOTALCARE, this thoughtfully designed village will feature 206 homes (1 to 3-bedroom units) and a central care facility with 96 life rights and 20 frail care beds. The homes are all wheelchair-friendly, with every essential within walking distance. It’s a lifestyle crafted around dignity, independence, and community.

Set in the charming town of Darling, Oude Post offers seniors the best of both worlds: country serenity paired with proximity to healthcare, recreation, and major transport routes. With TOTALCARE’s professional support services and Darling Green Country Estate’s commitment to sustainability, this is senior living at its finest.

We’re thrilled to share that none other than Pieter-Dirk Uys – affectionately known as Tannie Evita – will serve as the official ambassador for Oude Post, championing a village where care meets character, and every day brings new joy.

Estate Life: From Quiet Mornings to Sustainable Living

As more homes are completed and families settle in, the estate is beginning to hum with daily life – dog walks, children playing, and shared moments that build community. This year, our solar farm officially went live, with the houses being powered by solar during the day, and the municipality at night. It’s a step toward cleaner, more reliable energy for our residents. On the waste front, our recycling initiative is off to a great start – our first collection resulted in nine full bags of sorted recyclables. A small step for each resident, a giant leap toward greener living.

The Darling Sports Club: Where Community Comes to Play

Neighbouring the estate, the Darling Sports Club is quickly becoming a local favourite for all things fun and social. Whether you’re an avid golfer, a bowler fan, or simply in search of a great view and a cold drink, the club delivers.

Here’s what’s happening:

  • 9-Hole golf course nestled in scenic countryside
  • Bowls Club, Equestrian Club, a lively bar, and welcoming braai areas
  • Wednesday Night Markets
  • Community events like golf days, live music, and open-air markets

With sweeping views of the Darling hills, the sports club isn’t just a facility – it’s where friendships grow, locals connect, and good times roll.

The Darling Wildflower Show 2025: Nature’s Grand Finale

Mark your calendars: the iconic Darling Wildflower Show returns from 19–21 September 2025!

Last year’s event saw over 4,000 attendees, and this year promises even more botanical magic. Hosted by the Darling Wildflower Society, the show will once again shine a spotlight on the region’s biodiversity and community pride. With wildflower displays, guided walks, educational exhibits, and conservation talks, it’s an unmissable weekend for locals and tourists alike.

Beyond the beauty of the blooms, the Darling Wildflower Society continues to deepen its impact across the community. In collaboration with Vula Environmental Services and the Botanical Society of South Africa, they’ve recently launched a youth-focused conservation programme, providing training and practical experience in environmental stewardship for young people. One standout achievement? A brand-new biodiversity garden that’s blooming on the corner of Main Road and Jakaranda Street – a living symbol of the town’s commitment to nurturing nature.

The Society also runs engaging holiday programmes that introduce local children to Darling’s natural wonders, helping spark a lifelong love for biodiversity and conservation. These efforts aren’t just about flowers; they’re about future generations. And as the upcoming show draws near, it’s clear that this long-standing tradition is growing into something even more meaningful, rooted in heritage, community, and hope for a greener tomorrow.

More Than an Estate – A Way of Life

Darling Green Country Estate is more than bricks and plans – it’s a living, breathing community that reflects the heart of the West Coast. With every home built, solar panel installed, and wildflower blooming, we’re shaping a lifestyle that’s as enriching as it is enduring.

And the best part? We’re just getting started.
