This weekend of the 12th of September was nothing short of extraordinary at Darling Green Country Estate as we celebrated our second-ever Homeowners Association (HOA) Annual General Meeting (AGM). What began as an important milestone for our community soon blossomed into two full days of connection, collaboration, and celebration, all set against the beautiful Darling backdrop.
The AGM at Darling Cellars
On Friday afternoon, homeowners gathered at Darling Cellars for the official HOA AGM. The meeting began promptly at 12:30 PM, with Mike Morey from Pam Golding serving as chairperson. With his wealth of experience, Mike guided discussions with ease and professionalism. The agenda included key enquiries requiring agreement between the developer and the HOA, as well as important items put to a vote. Following this, Klaus Göbel shared highlights on the estate’s journey so far, including recent developments, upcoming projects, community campaigns, and exciting initiatives both within Darling Green and in the broader Darling community.
It was a productive session that not only addressed important governance matters but also reinforced our shared vision for the future of Darling Green Country Estate.
Wine, Conversation, & Connection
Once the formalities were concluded, the afternoon unfolded in true Darling style with a wine tasting at 3:00 PM. Homeowners, developers, and business partners gathered to savour local vintages and enjoy the warm hospitality of Darling Cellars.
Beyond the glasses raised, this was a time for connection: neighbours becoming friends, conversations sparking fresh ideas for future builds, and homeowners seizing the chance to ask one-on-one questions with the team. The setting created the perfect balance of business and pleasure, a reminder of the vibrant community we are building together.
A Bowls Inauguration to Remember
At 3:30 PM, we launched an exciting new chapter of community life with the introduction of bowls at the Darling Bowls Club. Participants were randomly divided into teams, mixing homeowners, partners, and DGCE staff.
The afternoon was filled with laughter, cheers, and playful banter echoing across the green. The friendly competition ran for two and a half hours, and when the dust settled, it was Kyla and Ben’s team who walked away victorious. The success of this launch wasn’t just about who won; it was about creating shared memories and kicking off what will surely become a cherished tradition at Darling Green.
A Heartwarming Close at the Sports Club
The day concluded at the Darling Sports Club, where everyone gathered for a hearty steak and chips dinner. The relaxed atmosphere, filled with good food and even better company, was the perfect ending to a day that celebrated progress, people, and the spirit of community.
Saturday: From Springboks to Spit Braai
Saturday kicked off with an electric atmosphere at the Darling Sport Club, where we gathered to watch the Springboks take on New Zealand in what turned out to be a record-breaking clash. The cheers, nerves, and celebrations united us all as we proudly supported the Boks. Sharing the excitement over delicious food from the club made the moment even more memorable. The energy and camaraderie from that game set the perfect tone for the rest of the day’s festivities, creating a lively spirit that carried right through to the Golf Academy launch and beyond.
Golf Academy
Earlier in the week, parents and students were invited to the Golf Club to hear more about the vision for this academy. Each student received a golf shirt, and parents had the opportunity to engage with dedicated committee members and the coach, a local from Darling who has stepped forward to lead the programme. Students from nearby schools have been invited to join the first intake.
The idea, first introduced by Darling Green Country Estate to the Darling Golf Club, was developed by the Golf Committee in partnership with the Stinger GC Foundation and The Invitational Group, and focuses on using golf as a platform for youth development. With support from Callaway Golf, The Pro Shop, and contributions from dedicated Golf Club members, equipment and facilities have already been secured.
The heart of the academy goes far beyond sport. It is about teaching discipline, respect, and life skills through the game of golf, while creating opportunities for young people in Darling.
The Stinger GC Foundation, which traces its roots back to Louis Oosthuizen’s Louis57 Foundation, has a long history of combining golf with meaningful community impact. Its involvement ensures that this academy will have the resources, expertise, and visibility to thrive.
Seeing the excitement of the students and parents as the project was formally introduced made the launch on Saturday all the more significant. With this foundation laid, the community came together to celebrate the official start of the programme.
Darling Green Country Estate Golf Day
With spirits high, the afternoon moved into the much-anticipated golf day on the Darling course. Ten teams teed off in an 18-hole tournament that brought out plenty of good-natured competition, laughter and camaraderie. The sunny weather made for perfect playing conditions, and the mix of impressive shots and light-hearted moments created a day that will be remembered by all who took part.
Once the final putt was sunk, everyone gathered for the prize-giving ceremony. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate both the achievements in the course and the sense of community that made the event so enjoyable.
As the sun set, the day closed with a delicious spit braai at the Darling Sport Club. More than just a shared meal, it also served as a fundraiser in support of the newly launched Golf Academy initiative, giving the day a sense of purpose as well as enjoyment.
We are grateful to Darling Sport Club and Darling Cellars for their warm hospitality, and to the many sponsors whose contributions helped make the day a success. This golf day was a true reflection of what community is about: coming together, enjoying one another’s company, and investing in a brighter future.
A Weekend to Remember
From thoughtful discussions at the AGM to the laughter on the bowls green, and from the pride of launching a youth golf programme to the joy of sharing meals together, the weekend was a true testament to what Darling Green Country Estate is all about: community, connection, and growth.
We are grateful to everyone who joined us and contributed to making this event such a resounding success. The future is bright, and together, we are building not just homes, but a lifestyle that celebrates both modern living and the small-town charm of Darling.
