Who is Evita Bezuidenhout?
Evita Bezuidenhout, also affectionately known as “Tannie Evita”, is the razor-sharp, stylish alter ego of legendary satirist and performer Pieter-Dirk (‘Uys dons false eyelashes and president listens’LA Times). Created during the height of apartheid as a form of political and social commentary, Evita rose to fame as the “Ambassador of the fictitious Bapetikosweti” and has since become one of the most recognisable and enduring characters in South African theatre and culture.
She’s unapologetically outspoken, deeply patriotic, and fiercely funny – often using humour to challenge societal norms, provoke thought, and bring South Africans together through shared laughter.
Why Does Evita Endorse Darling Green Country Estate?
Evita has always had a deep love for Darling, the charming West Coast town that’s not only her fictional home but the real-life location of her famous theatre, Evita se Perron.
Darling Green Country Estate proudly represents the values that Evita champions:
- A deep sense of community
- Progress that includes everyone
- A greener, more sustainable future
- Living with heart, humour, and heritage
In Evita’s own words:
“If you’re not living in Darling Green…darling, you’re missing out!”
We couldn’t agree more.

Evita se Perron – A Darling Landmark
Located right here in the heart of Darling, Evita se Perron is one of the town’s most unique and colourful attractions. A former railway station turned cabaret theatre and heritage centre, the venue offers:
- Live performances by Pieter-Dirk Uys as Evita
- A thought-provoking apartheid museum exhibit
- A quirky coffee shop and garden café
- A showcase of Darling’s cultural, artistic, and theatrical legacy
It’s more than a theatre – it’s an experience. And it’s one of the reasons Darling holds such a special place in South Africa’s cultural landscape.
A Natural Fit
At Darling Green Country Estate, we’re honoured to have Evita’s support. She embodies everything we believe in – courage, community, and character. Her endorsement reminds us that building a home is not just about bricks and mortar; it’s about being part of something meaningful, rooted, and real.
So, from one Darling to another – welcome home.
