Sometimes, it’s not about the headlines or the applause. It’s about people showing up – quietly, consistently, and wholeheartedly – to make a difference. The Darling Equestrian Club, founded and run by dedicated volunteers, is one such story of local hearts doing big things.
And this club is just getting started.
Rooted in Passion, Built for the Community
Founded by a passionate team of locals, the Darling Equestrian Club was established to make equestrian sports more accessible, inclusive, and community-focused. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned rider, this club offers something special: a space to learn, grow, and connect with horses and with people.
Officially registered as a non-profit company, the club is powered by a dedicated leadership team:
Caroline Herron – Chairperson
Tanya Menhinick – Vice Chairperson
Jodie Green – Treasurer
Kirsten M’Crystal – Secretary
These women are not just administrators – they are hands-on mentors, organisers, and champions for the riders of tomorrow. Caroline, who also lives right here at Darling Green Country Estate, brings her personal passion and professional experience into every aspect of the club’s vision. And if you’re looking for a way to get involved, she’s just a phone call away.
Events That Inspire & Connect
The club recently hosted two impactful events that captured the spirit of what Darling is all about:
Rider Safety & Community Building – With the support of the Wellington Pony Club, local riders took part in a day of learning, laughter, and life lessons. From safety basics to horse handling, the event culminated in a heartfelt rider awards ceremony. One moment that captured it all? When a development rider was asked what he learned that day, his response was simple and powerful:
Grooming and Turnout Event – Held at the Darling Sports Club Common, this fun-filled day welcomed Fusion Horsemanship and Sean the Travelling Groom for an educational and interactive experience. Riders got hands-on with grooming techniques and horse prep, followed by exciting games and a team relay that brought laughter, encouragement, and community spirit to the forefront.
The Power of Horses: More Than Just a Sport
Equestrian activities are about far more than riding. Studies show that time spent with horses supports both mental and physical well-being. Horse riding improves balance, coordination, and core strength while also building confidence, emotional regulation, and empathy. It’s known to reduce stress and anxiety – something we could all use more of.
But perhaps one of the greatest benefits is how horses bring people together. Riders support each other. Friendships are formed in the stable and solidified in the saddle. Through shared experiences, teamwork, and mutual care for these beautiful animals, a powerful sense of belonging is created.
And at Darling Equestrian Club, everyone belongs.
The club is currently in its foundational phase, with exciting infrastructure plans in motion – including a 60m x 40m dressage arena and a grass arena. These facilities will allow for the hosting of local competitions and formal training in a range of equestrian disciplines.
To make this vision a reality, the club is running several fundraisers and actively welcoming patrons, sponsors, and volunteers. Thanks to early support from J.F. Kirsten Vervoer and Cape Country Properties, and local businesses like Greening Up Nursery, Spar Darling, and 72 On Tap, the wheels are already turning.
How to Join or Support
The club is open to all community members, with a special focus on youth and development riders from the region. Pony Clubs from surrounding areas are always welcome to join in on events.
